First Congressional Church; Shrewsbury, MA
So I decided to use the beautiful steeple of this church to play around with rustic texturing, since it’s been a while since my last such post. I was purposely trying to be a little off in the composition, but strayed a bit too far (or not far enough) for my liking on most of the shots. Still, there is something about the off-balanced second shot that grabs me–the lower half of the frame is perfectly in-line, but the top half appears to be falling out of view. It’s an inconsistency I was striving for, but a lack of proper execution that led to most looking more like bad photography than artful rebellion.

Nevada Circa 1951; Genoa, Nevada
In 1901, New York became the first state in the U.S. to require vehicle license plates by law, though it wasn’t until 1903 that plates were government issued (people were originally required to make their own and often only listed their initials). Plates continued to vary in shape and size (with some plates even being the shape of the state itself) until they were finally standardized in 1957 after people got sick of continually drilling new holes into their bumpers to accommodate the different designs.

Whaleback Ledge Lighthouse; Kittery, Maine
Whaleback Ledge Light Station was first built in 1831 (and later rebuilt multiple times after damage from storms) off Cape Neddick near Kittery, Maine. The current tower was constructed in 1872 and stands 59ft tall. It’s currently abandoned and closed to the public–this is clearly a dare directed squarely at me. The good news is, I think I know who I can borrow a small boat from… I’ll let you know how the trespassing arrest goes later this summer.
